Mubarak created a plan to help these owners . he said " shop ONLY with these stores . help your neighbors stay in Business ." He distributed little slips of paper al over Hebron for customers to give to the merchants when they shopped in the beleaguered stores . These were good for drawings for free TV sets , washing machines , etc . It did not take long for many people to form lines waiting to go through the barricade . Businesses stay open and the settlers and soldiers could not stop this first attempt of NON VIOLENT CONFLICT RESOLUTION in Hebron .

      This was in 1985 , before Intifada . Dr. Awad kept the slogan "Buy Palestinian " before the people with stories in the Arab newspapers . His press conferences were crowded with Palestinian and Israeli reporters . It soon caught the attention of the international press . Mubarak was in demand every where . One of this avenues of "preaching" NON VIOLENT was in several social clubs , or meeting places , in Jerusalem . Mubarak , arrested several times , beginning in 1986 , in and out of the Al-Maskoubya prison , he still kept in contact with those he trusted to carry on the work of the center and its programs . He also continued secret meetings as often as he could while out of prison.
