The first emphasis was in Palestine Culture , to show forth pride in being a Palestinian , in engineering and computers , Business administrative and financial science , languages and social resources and continuing education . As Nayef's education had been centered in mass communications , it was only natural that the third major emphasis would be journalism , photography and mass communications .

      For the first few years , up until 1993 , AL WATAN Center devoted much of its finances , time, and energy to local participation by the people of Hebron and the surrounding villages . In 1993 and 1994 , we began to branch out into all of areas of Palestine . As we became better known as a center using the principles of NON VIOLENCE and CONFLICT RESOLUTION , our services were requested throughout the West Bank , Gaza , and nearly every part of Palestine .

     All the while , Nayef kept thinking of Mubarak Awad and NON VIOLENCE and CONFLICT RESOLUTION , and his center in east Jerusalem . The center had many difficult times because Israelis gad deported Mubarak in 1991 . the Intifada was causing deaths and violence on both sides . Our individuals " victory food gardens " were trampled under foot by the soldiers . Children were not permitted to go to kindergarten . All schools , colleges , and universities were closed , sometimes for weeks , months , and as long as three and a half years . Death and destruction was rampant throughout all of Palestine . Violence only led to more violence . stones thrown were punished with prison , injuries , closures , clashes , and death , death , death ! Nayef through how can this vicious , violent cycle can be stopped ?.
       Yet , all the vocational program were continued . The needs greater then ever . Nayef , his Board of Directors , Consultants ,parents , all said " we have to stop the violence ! If we are to stop this terrible blood letting , we will have to change the thinking of our people ." it was at this time seemed the logical place to start would be with the children . A children's reading club was started . Festival , featuring children's art , music , drama , story telling , summer camps , visits to factories , and many others features were added to the program . Over 8,000 children participated in these programs in 1993-1994
